On Being Rewarded

One of the sweetest things is to get an unexpected reward! I was flipping through (as if reading a book) the pages of our intranet when I saw that Connections, our company’s online newsletter, has picked the 2005 best entries to Express Yourself. This section of the newsletter allows employees to post their essays, creative writing and whatever online. I use a pen name because I want to hear people’s real reaction. If they see my name on a piece that I wrote I’m sure they’d be too polite to criticize it or even praise it.

Anyway, back to the real story, I was reading the editor’s pick for 2005, and there it was – my name, not my real name, of course! The editor picked something that I wrote and I won P300 gift certificate. It was such a cute surprise. What’s great about is that I know that it’s not prejudiced – the editors do not know whom the writer was, they simply recognized the work, and not the personality of the writer. The prize is just enough to buy 2 big packs of baked Doritos, sour cream and soda. Yum! That’s a treat good enough for me!

Mark Twain said, “I can live for two weeks on a good compliment.” So simple yet true. This little reward has surpassed the hard 2 weeks that I had dealing with people’s emotions. It’s something that I can hold on to maybe even for the next week, as Mark Twain believes.
It’s a silly little reward but it’s definitely one of the sweetest things…

A lunch treat

alone in the hr office in the old small building at south harbor... i sit in front of the computer, office light out, only the sun peeking through the old vertical blinds lit the room, typing these words while i listen to actors read pablo neruda's poems...

as if transported to another place, i listen... momentarily forgetting the ups and downs of the people and situations in the office....

this is enough treat for now. i am happy that i am alone here, listening to pablo neruda's poems...
