Who’s Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone?
My sister, Becky, and nephews, Juaf and Foncy, are leaving for Dubai soon. I am not worried about them because I know that they will be fine. They will be with Frank, my brother-in-law, and this makes their family complete, as what families should be. It will also give them a chance to be on their own which is what I think my sister and brother wanted. They will be attending the Victory church in Dubai. They have a beautiful and spacious home with a gym, playground and swimming pool. Other perks? They have centralized air-conditioning and free electricity.
Although I know in my heart that this is part of God’s plan for them, it still breaks my heart to be apart from my one and only baby sister and my nephews, whom I love like my own. I always tell Juaf that I love him and Foncy, and that I would miss them. He would answer, in a sing-song manner, “Who’s gonna miss me when I’m gone?” And I always tell him that I will miss all of them and I will think of them always and never forget them. Even when he was younger I told him that I will always love him and I explained what “always” means. I hope that he will remember. Foncy is just nearly 2, I hope that he will not forget me and Molly. I will never forget how he says, “Mimi, lab yuuuuuuuuu!” with matching gigil.
My sister and I tell the kids that even if they’re cousins, they should treat each other like siblings. We tell the boys that Molly is their baby sister and we tell Molly that Juaf and Foncy are her brothers. I tell the kids that I love their Mommy, who will forever be my baby sister even when we get older, and that they should love each other like that.
Intellectually, I know that they will be fine in Dubai. The kids will go to a good school and Becky will find a job (if she wants to work) and that they will be able to establish good friendships there, they will be discipled in Church, but I just feel sad that we will be saying goodbye.
We plan to visit them by December. Please pray that God will provide for our trip.
So, who’s gonna miss them? I will… definitely.
